The projects listed below represent just some of the many cases in which the Firm was successful in obtaining the entitlements needed for development approval.  Examples of significant projects include:

Alternative Fuels and Technologies

Abengoa Solar, Inc.
Abengoa Solar Inc. retained our firm to obtain both a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Special Use Permit for the Solana Generating Station, a solar plant which will utilize Concentrating Solar Power technology to generate 280 MW west of Gila Bend within the limits of Maricopa County. If the plant were built today, it would be the largest solar plant in the world.

The plant will utilize the southwest’s most abundant energy resource to leverage the region’s solar potential. In particular, it will provide approximately 70,000 homes with clean, reliable solar energy.

Our firm has been actively engaged with County staff, Planning and Zoning Commissioners, as well as the individual members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. This case has also required organized collaboration with County and State agencies, as well as a public participation plan encompassing individual land owners, elected officials, Luke Air Force Base, the San Lucy District, and many other stakeholders.

Once our Firm secures all of the necessary entitlements, the Solana Generating Station should come online at full capacity by 2011. We are proud to be a partner in Arizona’s sustainable future and to be an integral part of the team that will push forward one of Arizona’s most innovative and progressive renewable energy endeavors.

EMC
Always on the leading edge, the Firm recently facilitated approvals of a General Plan Amendment and special use permit through Maricopa County for an industrial General Plan designation to allow for development of a grain packing facility in preparation for an ethanol production facility.

Electric Transportation Engineering CorporationElectric Transportation Engineering Corporation
Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation (ETEC) engaged our firm to negotiate with the Planning Director and City staff in order to remove certain land use restrictions from a piece of property located near downtown Phoenix.

Our firm also successfully argued that ETEC was permitted to have certain uses on their property as an inherent right under the current zoning designation.

ETEC’s intention is to locate an experimental project at this location which may yield a renewable energy source that will produce zero emissions. While the specific details of this project are confidential, this project provided our firm with yet another opportunity to represent those who are taking giant leaps to lead Arizona into a sustainable future.
